UWS’s PPE Drive for Healthcare Workers

According to the World Health Organization, “severe and mounting disruption to the global supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) – caused by rising demand, panic buying, hoarding and misuse – is putting lives at risk from the new coronavirus and other infectious diseases.” With mounting dangers due to the coronavirus, this shortage of protective equipment threatens those on the frontline because they lack access to effective preventative measures against the coronavirus. Personal protective equipment is essential to protecting these workers and also stopping the spread of the virus. As such, many people such as myself have taken it upon themselves to obtain masks (which are not readily available to hospitals) and donate.

What really inspired me to help was researching and informing myself about the Covid-19 situation. The Covid-19 pandemic was getting worse and worse yet many hospitals were in dire need of protective equipment. My experience donating to my first hospital is what really kept me interested in finding more ways I could help and keep helping. The workers were so grateful and thankful for receiving donations because of how much they needed them. I was thankful to them too because of all the work they had done to fight against the Covid-19. Being able to see up close doctors working on the front line in such a dangerous environment was truly inspiring.
